Last week, when HTC announced its brand new Hero Android smartphone, the Taiwanese company said nothing about a North American release.However, it’s highly probable that the Hero will be launched both in the US and in Canada. For this to happen, the smartphone first needs the FCC’s approval – and it just got it, with 850/1900 MHz 3G bands, hence the bands that AT&T operates on.
Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Hero will be launched by AT&T – but at least we know that it can happen.
In Europe, HTC Hero will be available starting this month, but it might take a wile until it hits North America.
If we’re to believe some recent rumors, Sprint could also launch the Hero, but HTC needs to make a CDMA version of it first.
Until then, US mobile users should wait for the MyTouch 3G, T-Mobile’s second Android phone, which should be available in late July / early August for $199.99 on contract.
