We already heard about Brain Machine Interface(BMI) Devices, which recieves signals directly from our brain and operate. But todays most BMI devices are struggling with their slow and less accurate responses with our brain waves. Here is a collaborative product from Toyota Motor Corp. with Japanese Research Institute, RIKEN, which is the fastest and most accurate BMI tool available in the world with a valuable practical use.
This is Designed for severely disabled people, a EEG(Electro-Encephalogram) detector cap is connected with the wheelchair, that analyse the brain waves and work with a cheek puff detector and a display that assist with control. To steer the wheelchair ,the driver just thinks about the direction like left, right and move forward. The wheelchair instantly response with the thought. A Cheek Puff Detector is using to stop the machine, when driver's cheek puff, the wheelchair will suddenly stop.
This device's reponse time with human brain waves calculated as 125 milliseconds or 125 thousandths of a second or 1/8 of a second. Even the other devices in this kind take several seconds to response. Also this device shows 95% accuracy in its test. Which giving promise to us that these kind of tools will common in the medical as well as mechanical fields in the coming 2-3 years.
