The new media player will have two models 16GB and 32GB. Both the models will feature a bright 3-inch OLED display with 10,000:1 contrast ratio, WQVGA resolution, WiFi, Online music purchase via Amazon, FM radio, S-master digital amplifier, web browser and YouTube player. The audio / video format that will be supported are MP3, WMA, AAC, PCM, AVC (H.264), MPEG-4 and WMV.
WiFi on the new media player will allow Sony to add new features like upon listening to an artist, you can click the name of the artist to watch their video on YouTube and download audio / video podcast over the air. As Sony wants to make it one of the best media players available, they will use OLED screen for 100 percent color reproduction and very high contrast ratio. On the audio side, Sony will use a powerful S-Master digital amplifier in the device along with built-in digital noise cancelling to ensure optimal sound.
If Sony releases a new portable media player with all the above-mentioned features, they would bring the first true iPod touch competitor to the market. We would find out more very soon as less than a month is left for CES 2007.
