That rumored Palm Nova OS is actually the Palm webOS, a brand new mobile platform that was just announced by the company behind all the Treos in the world.webOS is a multi-touch platform and, as its name indicates, it’s also a Web-centric one.
It uses “industry-standard technologies, including web technologies such as CSS, XHTML and JavaScript”, thus allowing a wide range of developers to create applications for it.
The new OS comes with Palm Synergy, which is one of its key features, being able to provide information “from all the places it resides into one logical view”.
The first device to run on webOS is Palm Pre, an elegant smartphone that looks like nothing Palm has ever done.
Technically speaking, Palm Pre is a slider, having a weird curved shape that hides a full QWERTY keyboard.

- A gesture area, right below the display, allowing “simple, intuitive gestures for navigation”

For the beginning, Palm Pre will be exclusively available via Sprint in the US. Its exact release date was not announced, but the first half of 2009 will surely see the device in stores. After that, the GSM/HSDPA version of the smartphone will also be outed, in different other markets.
